The Carlton Community Website gets a facelift!

September 16, 2015

If you’ve visited the Carlton Community Website lately you’ll notice we’ve done a bit of spring cleaning and spruced things up a little!

While the look has changed, the site’s aims remain the same – to serve as a central digital hub for Carlton by providing a digital meeting space for the community; keeping residents, workers, students and visitors informed about life and activities in Carlton; and enriching community life by bringing people together.

Browsing the site

Content on the Carlton Community Website is organised according to key aspects of community life, which includes News, What’s On, Work and Volunteer and a Community Directory.

For those who are new to the site, you can catch up on the website’s history and developments via our About page.

Want to list your event on our What’s On page?

If you’re hosting an event you think the Carlton community should know about, we welcome you to submit an event listing on our site. All submissions will be published once it has been approved by our site administrator.

Want to feature your organisation in the Carlton Community Directory?

Organisations and community groups that provide services to the community can also be listed in the community directory for free. All you have to do is submit your details and your listing will be published once it has been approved by our site administrator.

Comments and feedback

The site is a work-in-progress, and we’ll be adjusting things and adding more content as we develop. To help us improve, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback – be it asking questions, responding to articles, sharing feedback about your user experience or the type of content you’d like to see featured on the Carlton Community Website.

Scroll to the bottom of most pages/posts in the website and you’ll find comment boxes where you can leave a reply and post your comment. Why not have a go right now and post a comment below?

Very easy to navigate and a resourceful information hub.

Hi, perhaps allowing the person who submitted events to modify it’s details (or even delete it) after posting it would improve the event submission system.

Multiple categories for listings in the community directory could be a good addition.

Adding an event – when adding the address I was not able to go back and change it, it asked me to reset the form. It would be easier if you can just go back and change it instead.

    hi there
it would be good to be able to enter under different categories, for example Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre could be entered under venues and also specific events

    the website looks excellent
    thanks natalie

    Hello,

    Great website!

Just a small suggestion and an issue:
    1. I put The Community Grocer into the directory but it would have been great to have a ‘food’ category to be listed under.
    2. When I tried to enter The Community Grocer as an ongoing event I was told I did not have the authorised access to do so. We hold a market every Friday fro 9.30-12.30 and ideally I’d like to have this up on the website every week so I don’t have to keep entering it. If you could tell me how to enter it, or put it in for me, that would be really helpful.

    Thanks
    Georgia

The website is very cool. We just merge from 3 Community health centres, so we are going to input and upload more information as we can. This web site is very interactive and suits people. i just wonder about any translation to multicultural languages. How do you ensure the sustainability of the website. Also promoting the website is important, and making sure that you have a lot of followers. information on training, development, services around, referral services…. can add to the interest

It may be useful to profile those who do use it and enjoy it. It is possible that theremay be some who are not confident of their computer skills.

-I think you could reduce the number of options in the top nav – for example partners, community directory, blog (same as homepage), join and about could be one option.
-When submitting an event, you should enable the photo to be linked with a url rather than uploaded
-Overall it is an excellent website.

A great website easily navigated and uncluttered interface. A very useful and accessible resource for the community.
Do you have computer classes here? A suggestion for the ‘stories’- maybe ‘showcasing’ or profiling some local personalities and ‘ordinary’ people who live or work or study in Carlton and contibute to the community… human interest stories.

Hello, great site, clear, simple and encouraging. As a person recently having some sight issues I find the type a bit small, particularely the light grey writing. must go, more later.

Can you add a fortnightly option to the events page. Thanks

Great re-vamp. The references to North Yarra Community Health need to change to cohealth and have a new logo plus it would be good to list our Carlton site address and add link to our current website

Hi Louise, thanks for your feedback. Would you be able to email us the updated details and new logo? Alternatively, you could submit a new listing and I’ll remove the current one? Information or questions can be emailed to carltoncommunitywebsite@gmail.com. Thanks, Karen.
